In middle school, my friends and I used to do makeovers a lot. I think I believed a sweep of eyeshadow could change your life. There’s a very strong possibility I’d seen too many 80’s movies. Or, we could just blame it on this 90’s one.

Around the time Clueless was out, I remember reading an article in YM or some other teeny magazine with tips on how to make your own scrubs and facial masks. Since then, I’ve always been intrigued by DIY beauty. Unfortunately, my interest has never resulted in me actually crafting my own masks or scrubs. Thankfully, fate stepped in. About a month ago, I was reading an issue of Whole Living that had a great little article on creating your own facial mask using avocados. I dog-eared it and planned to share it with you.
Tonight, I made it along with a simple, but great homemade sugar scrub. I washed my face and then, used the scrub followed by the facial mask. I’m pleased to report my skin feels so soft, but I should warn you I ended up with bits of avocado in my hair as well.

1 tsp. of honey
1/2 tsp. of brown sugar
Mix the honey and brown sugar in a bowl with a spoon. I didn’t measure, but just kind of guessed at it. The mixture will be very sticky.
Apply it to your face in larger globs, rubbing it in as you go. Then, rinse your face with warm water. Your skin should feel really soft.

1/2 of an avocado
1 tsp. honey
1 tbsp. plain yogurt
In a small bowl, mash half of an avocado. Stir in the yogurt and honey. I didn’t measure these and actually estimated the amounts. Spread it evenly over a clean face. Let it sit for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water. I’d recommend doing this over your kitchen sink to avoid globs of avocado everywhere. After patting your face dry, add moisturizer.
