Whiskey Sours

Have you had a whiskey sour before. A real one? With fresh citrus and a homemade simple syrup? Me neither.

So, I researched different recipes and landed on one from the Barefoot Contessa, because that lady seems to know her way around a cocktail.

Well, I’m pleased to report they are quite lovely and easy to put together. The only thing to keep in mind is to make your simple syrup ahead of time, so you have a chance to chill it before making the cocktail.

Now, all you’re missing is a patio or deck to sip it on.

4 Drinks

Ingredients:
3/4 c. Rieger Whiskey or other
Juice from three or more lemons (1/2 c.)
Juice from four or more limes (1/2 c.)
1 c. sugar
1 c. water
Maraschino cherries

Directions:
Make the simple syrup. Put 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepan and cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. This will take just a minute or two. Remove it from the heat and transfer it to the refrigerator when cooled. Chill before using. This can be made ahead and stored in the fridge.

Create the cocktails. Then, when your syrup is cold, fill a cocktail shaker with ice halfway. Add 1/4 c. and 2 tbsp whiskey, along with a 1/4 c. each of the lime and lemon juices. Now, pour in 1/3 c. simple syrup. Shake for 30 seconds. Then, pour into two glasses filled with ice. Garnish with a cherry in each and repeat once more to make four cocktails.
