There’s something about whipping up an at-home beauty remedy that makes me feel like I’m in sixth grade at my best friend’s house trying on make-up and practicing new ways to do hair.
Well, I may have moved on from braces and big bangs, but I still love a good, at-home beauty treatment. Yesterday, I mixed up the simplest sugar scrub that left my not-so-cute feet soft and sandal ready. The whole thing took me less than ten minutes and cost just a few bucks, which was kind of brilliant.
The secret to this magic exfoliator is the coconut oil. No surprise here. Coconut oil has been having a real moment lately. Lauded for its health and beauty properties, I’ve recently embraced it and am often shocked at how versatile it is.
For this simple, yet effective scrub, mix one part sugar to two parts coconut oil. I made a small batch, but the recipe can easily be scaled up or down. To give it a summery scent, I threw in a little lime zest, but you could use lemon or orange if you prefer. However, if you want to use this on your face, I’d skip the acidic citrus and use an essential oil instead. No one wants to get bits of zest in their eye. That would be the opposite of relaxing.
Lime, Coconut & Sugar Scrub
Ingredients:
2 tbsp. coconut oil
1 tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. lime zest (Leave this out if you plan to use it on your face.)
The Recipe:
In a small bowl, add a tablespoon of sugar. Then, grate in 1/2 tsp. lime zest.
Stir the two together.
Now, add in the coconut oil.
Stir to incorporate. And now for the best part, it’s time to use it.
Application:
Get your feet wet in the tub. Then, turn the water off. Now, take a small amount of the scrub and apply it in circular motions to your feet. Continue to add more as you see fit. (You really can’t screw this up.) Now, rinse of the scrub and dry your feet. Ta da! You’re sandal ready.
