15 Minute Applesauce

When I say things like, “I made applesauce last night,” I can literally hear my friends roll their eyes. And, they should, because it sounds crazy. Making your own applesauce seems like something that is incredibly hard, like churning your own butter or making a 16-layer cake.

Well, I’m hear to set the record straight. It takes about 15 minutes from start to finish. Yes, that’s really it.

Feel free to share that tidbit with anyone you’d like. Or, keep it to yourself and let every one think you are the kind of person who makes your own pop tarts. I won’t tell if you won’t.

All you need to do to make applesauce is peel and chop a few apples. (This the hardest part.) Then, add them to a pan with a little water over medium heat. Next, mix in hints of both cinnamon and honey. As the apples start to soften, mash them with a potato masher, which speeds things up (or you can use a wooden spoon, but that will take a bit longer). And, that’s it. Now, prepare to eat the most delicious applesauce you’ve ever tasted. You’re welcome.

15 Minute Applesauce

Ingredients:

2 Granny smith apples

2 Golden delicious apples

1/4 c. water

1/4 tsp. cinnamon

1/2 tsp. raw or regular honey

Directions:

Peel all the apples. Then, cut the sides off each one, removing the core. Now, chop each side into 1/2 inch pieces. Toss them into a saucepan and add some water.

Place the whole thing over medium heat and mix in the cinnamon and honey.Stir occasionally.

When the apples begin to soften and break down, use a masher to speed up the process or a wooden spoon to smash them against the side of the pot..It’s ready to serve when the apples are soft and mashed to your desired consistency. At our house, we keep quite a few large apple pieces, because I love it that way, and I am the cook.
