My Fall TV Picks

Every year, I take a look at the upcoming, fall T.V. schedule and make my picks. I choose a list of shows that we plan to watch – new and returning. Each year, it seems to get a little bit harder.

Last year, we dropped a lot of shows, which means we’re kind of starting from scratch now. So, there are a lot of new programs we’ll be test-driving in the next few weeks.I’m excited about some of the new shows, but I’m the first to admit our schedule looks pretty empty on some nights. We may have to take up knitting to pass the time.

Sunday:

Madam Secretary, CBS, 7 PM CST, Premieres Sept. 21.

Starring Tea Leoni as the Secretary of State, Madam Secretary looks smart and interesting. I’m hoping it’s both.

Downton Abbey, PBS, September 21

There’s little I like more than being whisked away into a period drama. Keegan has absolutely no interest in seeing what goes on at Downton Abbey, so I’ll be watching this one solo. I don’t mind a bit.

Monday:

Gotham, FOX, 7 PM CST, Starts Sept. 22

We’re suckers for superhero stories at our house, so I’m sure we’ll be watching Gotham. It’s the origin story of the police commissioner Jim Gordon – from the Batman series, and is supposed to show his investigation of the Wayne family murders. It also stars the dreamy O.C. alum Ben Mackenzie, so even if it isn’t good, at least there will be something nice to look at.

The Blacklist, NBC, 9 PM CST, Begins September 22

We watched The Blacklist last year, but sometimes, James Spader’s character is a little too smug for my taste. I’m sure we’ll pick it up again, because the hubby is a big fan.

Tuesday:

Selfie, ABC, 7 PM CST, Begins September 30

This is being promoted as a modern Pygmalion, and while I love a good makeover story, I am trying this with out with a lot of hesitations.

Manhattan Love Story, ABC, 7:30 PM CST, Premieres September 30

Manhattan Love Story is a new romantic comedy on ABC. It follows the relationship of two people who are set-up on a pretty disastrous first date. The scenes are peppered with the characters’ unfiltered, inner thoughts. It looks promising, but a little cliche. I’m giving it a try, because Analeigh Tipton is pretty, darn charming in everything she does.

Marry Me, NBC, 8 PM CST, Starts Oct. 14

Marry Me chronicles a couple who are trying to get their proposal right. Each time they try to propose the results are pretty catastrophic. I like the two lead actors a lot and am hoping it will be as funny as it looks. Fingers crossed.

New Girl, FOX, 8 PM CST, Begins Sept. 16

New Girl is easily one of my favorite shows. I giggle through every episode. I can’t wait to see what this fun group of friends is up to this season.

The Mindy Project, FOX, 8:30 PM CST, Begins Sept. 16

Last season ended in an epic way, and I’m looking forward to seeing Danny and Mindy in a romantic relationship this year. One of my favorite shows, The Mindy Project is the perfect combination of funny and heartwarming.

Sons of Anarchy, FX, 9 PM CST, Premieres Sept. 9

This is the final season of Sons Of Anarchy, and I can’t wait to see what’s ahead. I was a little peeved that they killed my favorite character last season, but I am trying to get it over it. It’s sort of working. SOA writers are great at creating jaw-dropping cliff-hangers, so it will be exciting to see how they wrap all this up.

Wednesday:

Modern Family, ABC, 8 PM, CST, Premieres Sept. 24

I love this show. It’s so funny and consistently really good. I can’t wait to see what the Pritchetts, Tuckers and Dunphys are up to this season.

Nashville, ABC, 9 PM, CST, Begins Sept. 24

So soapy and dishy, Nashville never disappoints. The music and twisty plot lines are the perfect escape. The only downside is the serious hair envy you’ll have while staring at Connie Britton’s gorgeous locks.

Thursday:

Scandal, ABC, 8 PM CST, Starts Sept. 25

I’ve got my white hat on and am ready for a new scandalous season with Olivia Pope.

Gracepoint, FOX, 8 PM CST, Begins Oct. 2

Gracepoint is a new “event series,” which centers around the murder of a young boy and the subsequent investigation that affects a small town. It looks really well done, and with Anna Gunn from Breaking Bad as one of the leads, it should be fantastic.

A to Z, ABC, 8:30 PM CST, Premieres Oct. 2

This looks like a real charmer. Watch and see if you agree.

How to Get Away With Murder, ABC, 9 PM CST, Premieres Sept. 25

How to Get Away With Murder is another Shonda Rhimes creation. It stars Viola Davis and is expected to be a breakout hit this year.

Elementary, CBS, 9 PM CST, Premieres Oct. 30

This is one the husband and I watch together. We both love the smart storylines and fast-paced cases in this Sherlock Holmes detective series.

So, I’d love to know which shows are you excited about? Any I should try out?
