On My Bookshelf: The Glass Kitchen

A few days ago, the husband and I took a really brief, but fun vacation to Boston and Hartford, Connecticut. Since I was a little girl, I’ve always packed a large amount of entertainment when I travel. It used to be coloring books and Barbies, but now, it’s about 8,000 books and 25 magazines.

For this trip, I wanted to keep things light, so I loaded my Nook with a new read and considered myself good to go. After several car rides and long layovers, I had to add a second. While I would have liked to have spent less time at the airport, I am pleased to report I had time to read two books. Two! And, they were both really good.

The second one I read is called The Glass Kitchen. I had first seen it in a magazine and dogeared the page, because it sounded like it was right up my alley: cooking, magic and romance. It doesn’t get much better for summer reading than those three ingredients.

I’m happy to report The Glass Kitchen didn’t disappoint. Set primarily in New York, the main character Ophelia moves from Texas to the Big Apple to reunite with her two sisters and escape the scandal of a messy divorce. While there, she reconnects with her clairvoyant cooking skills and makes eyes at her hunky neighbor. (Sounds beachy, right?)

If you’re looking for something light to read as you sun yourself or bide your time at Terminal B, look no farther than this little gem. You won’t be disappointed. And, if you are, make one of the recipes included in the back of the book to cheer yourself up. Win, win.
