The fall collections had a vintage feel punctuated with luxurious textures and deep colors. I combed through the Fall 2014 RTW photos on Vogue.com and came up with a list of my favorite 10 trends.

1. Fur: Whether dyed in vibrant colors or kept classic in neutrals, fur was all over the place. Used as a trim, to cover handbags or as a full coat, there was a little something for everyone. Real may not be in line with your beliefs or budget, but fear not – there are a lot of great faux options out there.
2. Tweed: Tweed showed up in both outerwear and suiting. Pick up a great coat or versatile blazer. This is one trend you’ll find yourself reaching for year after year.
3. Leather: In skirts, tailored coats and as accents, leather was at nearly every show. Much like fur, you can find it in shades beyond neutral this season, but for my money, I’ll be sticking with brown and black if I make the investment.
4. Capes: This trend makes me ridiculously happy. There is something so chic about a cape. It seems like the perfect thing for whisking about town, doesn’t it?
5. Big Knits: Large chunky knits will have you looking stylish while staying warm. Trimmed with fringe or accented with scarves, cuddly clothing has never looked better.
6. Slouchy Pants: Harem pants and they’re baggy counterparts are here to stay – at least for another season. Slouchy, cool-girl slacks were at a number of shows. Be aware of your silhouette when reaching for a pair. This trend is not for everyone.
7. Pattern: Mod patterns, moody florals, plaids and color-blocked pieces were just a few of the patterns shown. When in doubt, reach for a print that is reminiscent of the 60’s or 70’s, and you’ll be immediately on-trend.
8. Color: While most shows were primarily made up of neutrals, there was still quite a bit of color for fall. Saturated jewel tones, hunter green, bright pastels and cobalt blue were some of the more prevalent shades.
9. Shearling: Did you ever have a shearling coat? It comes back in style every few years, and as luck would have it, it’s in again. It is easily one of my favorites, as it evokes easy glamour when done properly, like it was at ODLR and Burberry.
10. 60’s and 70’s: Pared down silhouettes, mod patterns and go-go boots had me thinking fashion was headed in a decidedly 60’s direction, but tailored leather, appliques, and bold prints were oh-so 70’s. Both decades are reimagined in a stylish fashion forward way. The nice thing about revisiting these trends is that you don’t have to choose, you can wear both.
Which trends will you be adding to your closet this fall?
P.S. Embellished is also huge again – Fringe, jeweled and appliqued pieces are still in fashion, so be sure to keep them in your closet.
