For book club last month, we read Attachments by Rainbow Rowell.

The Plot: The story takes place in 1999. The Internet is still relatively new. The clothes are phenomenal.

The  male lead, Lincoln, has been hired to monitor emails at a newspaper. (Big Brother is watching.) While at work, he starts following the correspondence of two of his co-workers who are friends.

My Thoughts:  Attachments is a love story, and you will find yourself falling in love with Lincoln – or at least wanting to set him up with someone you know. The book is told from his point of view, but almost half of it is comprised of the email chain between the two ladies he works with. Reading their notes back and forth reminded me of friends I’ve made at past jobs and the easy camaraderie we shared. It is one of the few things I miss about working in a traditional office – that and the holiday snacks.

While the romance is adorable, the friendship shown via email between the two women at work is the real star of the story. Often ladies are depicted in much more sinister way when it comes to their relationships – particularly working ones (I’m looking at you Real Housewives.). So, it was a nice change of pace to read about a friendship that reminds me of some of my own.

Verdict: You should definitely read this book, like yesterday.
