Baby Food

So, I’ve been making my own baby food for a few weeks now. I wanted to share the experience with you, but don’t want to place any added pressure on the other moms out there. So, if you don’t like to cook or work full-time out of the home, please disregard this post. Hug your baby, crack open a jar of food and move on.

If you are curious about it, then please, feel free to read on. I’ll also be adding a Baby Food page to the site that I’ll continue to supplement information to over time. I hope it will be a good resource for you.

Before I had Miss Ellie, I knew this was something I wanted to try. As you can tell from this blog, I enjoy cooking and thought it might be fun to make homemade treats for the little one. I wasn’t really sure where to start so I did a little research online. There are a few great resources, but the more I looked in to everything the more confused I got.

Our pediatrician said we could introduce one new food at a time, waiting three days before moving on to the next. Many of the recipes I found had multiple ingredients. I was looking for advice on those first foods. On the Baby Food Recipe page, I’ll start by sharing really basic recipes, along with a list of the “equipment” you’ll need to start. As Ellie eats more, I’ll add to the list of recipes. Hopefully, this can be a good starting place for you. None of these foods are hard to make, but the process is time-consuming. Be sure this is something you really want to do before adding it to your plate.

That being said it’s a money saver and can be really rewarding.

There are a few resources out there with lots of great recipes for kids of all ages. Two that I found and loved are Weelicious (My husband bought me the cookbook written by the author of the blog. It’s really great.) and Smitten Kitchen’s baby section.

Also, before whipping together your own recipes, check out this list of foods babies shouldn’t eat on the Mayo Clinic’s site. But, above all, talk to your pediatrician about any dietary restrictions before doing anything.
