Things have been crazier than usual around here. Between work and the baby, I haven’t had any time to post to the blog, which is sort of killing me, because I have 8 billion things I’d like to share with you and am running out of time to do it. See, I started scheduling out my months with blogging topics, so that I’d have no trouble coming up with things to write. While it helps to keep me inspire, it also makes me crazy, because I keep thinking, “I’ve got to tell them about the homemade pizza or that apple slaw I made.” But, I don’t want to cancel any of the things that are coming up. So, to give myself some relief, I thought I’d do a quick compilation of things I’ve been waiting to share with you.
First off, you might be wondering how I find time to cook with a new baby. Well, the picture below explains it all. I have a very serious Chef watching my every move in the kitchen. She’s a toughie.
- This week, I attended a second Test Kitchen event. As always, it was wonderful. If you’re in the Kansas City area and haven’t signed up for Jenny’s mailing list, do it. The meals are a little pricey, but completely worth it. This particular one was all Spanish food.
- Last Friday, I had friends over for a wine tasting party. We all drank rosé and ate a ton of food. I’m hoping to share more about this next week, but wanted to tide you over with a tip on a delicious rosé I had at Test Kitchen, Chateau St. Cyrgues.
- Did you know Nate Berkus has a collection coming to Target on October 21? The pieces in the promotional materials look gorgeous. Start saving now. (I need those bowls.)
- Each month, I’m planning to do a cookbook review. This month, I’ve been cooking out of Sophie Dahl’s Very Fond of Food. It’s an absolutely beautiful book and has given me my new favorite way to make peas. That being said, I will admit she uses a lot of hard to find ingredients. I had a difficult time choosing recipes, because I didn’t want to spend a lot of time hunting and gathering around town. My final word on the cookbook is that if you love cookbooks and great story telling get it. If not, buy her first cookbook instead. Regardless, make the peas: Boil 1 c. frozen peas until al dente. Drain and mash with a potato masher. Stir in 1 tbsp sour cream or crème fraîche, 1 tsp evoo and a handful of chopped mint. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Chelsea boots are big for fall. I tried to put together a Fashion Friday post for today and quickly discovered there aren’t very many out there yet that aren’t expensive. Here are some tips on how to wear them.
- T.V. Update: I watched Revolution and thought the female protagonist was a wimp. I was not impressed. However, Real Housewives of Miami is back, and Mama Elsa has me snickering to myself. She is hysterical.
- My Food Project this month was homemade pizza. I used Mark Bittman’s recipe for dough. It’s easy and freezable. I was happy with how it turned out, but wish I would have made my crust thinner. I also wasn’t too impressed with my toppings. Overall, it was a keeper, but I’m starting to wonder if I need a pizza stone. The idea of purchasing more kitchen equipment has me ready to order a pizza instead of making one.
- One King’s Lane has a collection from Emily Schuman of Cupcakes and Cashmere that ends today. Everything is beautiful and perfect for entertaining. I was surprised at how affordable the choices were. If you’re in the need of new dishes, I’d recommend checking it out. Also, you can get a signed copy of her book for just $12.
- A week ago, I ordered two tops from Zara. I love them both. One has a peplum, and the other has faux leather sleeves. Both are machine washable, which is my new spit-up friendly requirement.
- On a personal note, I started my own company called Dotted Line Marketing and am doing freelance marketing and consulting from home. If you know of anyone looking for help, please send them my way.
