A year ago, I did a post on DIY Beauty. For a while, I’ve been wanting to try some of the other recipes I found while researching, and finally landed on this almond orange scrub via Pink of Perfection. I had all of the ingredients on hand, so it seemed like a perfect fit. It was a little difficult to put together, because I found the recipe from Self to be a little vague. For starters, I needed more like two handfuls of almonds and wasn’t sure how much orange peel to incorporate. I ended up using just two slices, but could have done one large one instead. I also didn’t puree it finely enough at first, so I sort of stabbed myself with almonds the first time I put some on my face. Apparently, I’m not so hot with my blender. Then, and this had nothing to do with the recipe, I proceeded to dump the whole batch all over my bathroom counter. By the time I could put some on my face, I was ready to scrap the whole thing.
Thank God I gave it a try. The first thing you should know is that it smells wonderful. Fresh and citrusy, my skin felt so smooth and soft after using it. Stored in a canning jar, I think it would make a lovely gift, and when you consider that this scrub costs a fraction of what you’d pay for something similar at the store, it seems silly not to try it tonight.
Almond Orange Scrub from Self
2 handfuls almonds (about a 1/2 c.)
1 orange peel – about an inch wide
1 cup grapeseed or olive oil (I used grapeseed oil)
Puree all the ingredients in a blender or food processor until grainy. It should be about the consistency of wet sand. Look for nice body, but no large chunks. Add more almonds if it’s too oily.
