The trench coat is one of those pieces that always ends up on a fashion “must-have” list. Universally flattering, it can transform the most mundane outfit into something so chic. Part starlet and part spy, wearing a trench adds a little bit of glamour to the everyday

If you don’t own a trench, now is a great time to pick one up. They are more available than ever and come in a variety of colors and patterns. Personally, I’d recommend choosing a classic shape and neutral color for your first trench. I have a black one that I wear constantly in the Fall and Spring.

Then, pick up some inexpensive versions in bright colors, like Anne Hathaway’s character in Bride Wars.*
*This movie was pretty terrible, but how cute are those coats!
